Apple silicon · macOS 14+

A little setup.
A calmer day.

From your first download to your first reading. Quotchi lives in your Mac menu bar and uses your tools’ existing sign-in. The core features are Free, and there’s no Quotchi account.

Before you start

You need an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 14 or later. In Apple menu → About This Mac, check the chip and macOS version. Intel Macs are not supported by this release.

For readable limits, check your installed provider version and subscription sign-in against the compatibility table. Only using the Claude desktop app? Quotchi can read its Settings → Usage page instead (see below). Homebrew, npm, nvm, Volta and Bun installs are all found automatically.

Make Quotchi at home

  1. Download from Quotchi. Use the download button here or on the home page. The main download is a disk image (DMG).
  2. Open the disk image. In Downloads, double-click the Quotchi DMG to open the installation window.
  3. Move it to Applications. Drag Quotchi onto the Applications folder in that window. Eject the Quotchi disk, then open the app from Applications.
  4. Confirm the first launch. macOS may ask whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. For the copy you downloaded here, confirm Open. If macOS says the developer cannot be verified, the app is damaged, or it cannot check the app, stop and contact support.
  5. Meet your companion. Follow the three welcome screens: meet Quotchi, choose the tools to watch, and find the sloth in your menu bar. The setup check shows what each tool needs, with one command to copy if something is missing.

No Terminal command or installer package is needed to install Quotchi. Your provider’s own CLI setup remains separate.

Find your first reading

  1. Sign in to Claude Code or Codex with the subscription account you already use. Quotchi never asks you to paste credentials.
  2. Click the sloth in your menu bar. In Settings → AI tools, review the connection message and choose which tools to watch.
  3. Choose Refresh and look for a current reading in Now. Percentages show the amount used; each readable window has its own limit and reset.

A dash means a reading is unavailable. “Partial” means some limits may be missing. If no limits appear, use the connection recovery steps. Manual refresh has a one-minute cooldown.

Make it yours, at your pace

  • Alerts: enable alerts in Quotchi Settings and respond to the macOS notification prompt if you want notifications. You can review notification access in System Settings → Notifications.
  • Login startup: choose the launch-at-login option in General settings if you want Quotchi available after signing in to your Mac.
  • Widgets: enable widget sharing in General settings, then add Quotchi from macOS Edit Widgets.
  • Stats: open Stats and opt in to reading available local token/model summaries. Saved observations and Pro history have separate collection controls. See the privacy guide.
  • Claude app (optional): signed out of Claude Code, or only use the Claude desktop app? Turn on “Read the Claude app’s Usage page” in Settings → AI tools, allow Accessibility access and keep the Claude app’s English Settings → Usage page open. Quotchi reads the session and weekly bars only, and Claude Code’s own reading always wins when it has one.
  • Gemini (optional): turn on “Read the open Usage limits pane” in Settings → AI tools, allow Accessibility access and keep Gemini’s English Usage limits pane open. You’ll see app usage without reset times. Claude Code and Codex don’t need this.

For Pro, import the signed file delivered with your purchase in Settings → Pro → Import license. Keep the original file for reinstalling or your second Mac. See activation and restoration.

Install an update

Quotchi checks for a new version once a day and shows a quiet line in the panel when one is ready; you can also choose Check for updates in Settings → Updates, which shows your installed version and build. See what’s new before updating.

Quotchi 0.7.4 and later: click Install… in the panel (or in Settings → Updates). Quotchi shows the release notes, downloads the signed, notarized update from quotchi.com, checks its signature, replaces itself and reopens. Your settings, history and Pro license stay as they are. Prefer it hands-off? Turn on Install updates automatically in Settings → Updates; Quotchi then installs new versions in the background and restarts itself when it’s idle. It’s off unless you turn it on.

Quotchi 0.7.3 or earlier can’t install updates itself. Update once by hand, and later versions take care of themselves:

  1. Download the latest available release from this website.
  2. Quit Quotchi from its menu before replacing the app.
  3. Open the new DMG and drag Quotchi into Applications. Choose Replace when Finder asks, then eject the disk.
  4. Open Quotchi again and verify the version and your connections. Keep your original Pro license file available if you need to import it again.

Do not delete local data just to update. If you used a development or earlier test build, its separate app identity may require fresh setup in the production app.

Remove Quotchi

If you want to remove retained readings, use the history export/deletion controls and Settings → Privacy before uninstalling. Saved Stats observations have a separate deletion action; deleting these does not delete your provider’s records or exported share cards.

Turn off launch at login, quit Quotchi, and move Quotchi.app from Applications to the Trash. Removing the app alone does not erase retained local records or request a Pro refund. See the seven-day refund policy for refund requests.
