The Agent Wrangler
Parallel agents and subagents, all drawing on one shared allowance.

What this says about you
You’re not typing prompts so much as running a small team: subagents for research, parallel sessions in worktrees, maybe an agent team with a lead and teammates. It’s the most productive way to use these tools, and the fastest way to use up an allowance.
Claude Code’s docs are clear that a subagent’s requests count toward the same usage limits as your main conversation, and that agent teams use significantly more tokens than a single session. Parallel work multiplies usage; the plan doesn’t multiply with it.
Your plan, honestly
If you run several agents at once most days, Max 20x is the realistic Claude tier. Start on Max 5x if you’re unsure, then check the /usage breakdown to see how much of your usage is subagents. Anthropic suggests moving to 20x if you consistently hit limits on 5x.
This is our rule of thumb, not official advice, and it doesn’t promise a quota: neither Anthropic nor OpenAI publishes a fixed number of messages. See Claude Max vs Pro for the details.
Two tips that fit
- Put cheap work on cheap models. Claude Code’s docs suggest Haiku for simple subagent tasks and Sonnet for teammates, and starting agent teams with three to five teammates.
- Read the attribution. On paid plans,
/usagebreaks recent usage down by skills, subagents, plugins and MCP servers. If you seeRequest rejected (429), the docs suggest fewer parallel subagents.
Your Quotchi feature: Know which session needs you
Quotchi Pro shows which Claude Code session is waiting on you and which one the limit paused, and nudges you when you can resume. For agent queues, the Free quotchi wait command blocks until a tool has room again.
